Violence continues to escalate in and around Israel. A Palestinian man injured at least eight people in a ramming and stabbing attack in response to Israel’s deadly raid in the West Bank.

Details: Israel deployed hundreds of troops and launched air attacks on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Monday in an operation aimed at targeting terrorists infrastructure and confiscating weapons.

  • Israeli forces killed at least 10 Palestinians and injured 50 during the raid.

  • Military tanks and bulldozers tore through alleyways, knocked out power and water, and forced residents to flee.

  • The military said it confiscated thousands of weapons, bomb-making materials, and caches of money hidden away in militant hideouts and civilian areas as well.

In response the Hamas militant group claimed responsibility for an attack on civilians in Israel on Tuesday, in which a man rammed people with his car and got out and stabbed bystanders with a sharp object. No one was killed, but a pregnant woman lost her baby from the stabbing injuries.

The big picture: The infighting between Palestinians and Israelis in the area has increased in the past year, with the Israeli Defense Force conducting near-daily raids in Palestinian cities and towns.

  • The Israeli military has killed 140 Palestinians in the West Bank in 2023. Many were militants but several civilians, including children have also been killed.

  • Palestinian attacks have slain at least 25 Israelis in the West Bank and Israel in the past year.
