Nearly 130 heads of state and government are gathering in New York as the United Nations General Debate begins, bringing world leaders together for six days of speeches and diplomacy amid wars in the Middle East and Ukraine.
The annual debate gives each of the U.N.'s 193 member countries a chance to address the General Assembly and lay out its priorities. President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak today as the host country's leader, with speeches continuing through next Monday.
Wars involving Iran and Israel, and in Gaza and Ukraine, are expected to dominate diplomacy throughout the week. Leaders will also hold dedicated meetings on climate and energy, rising sea levels and pandemic preparedness as the U.N. faces growing questions over its finances and ability to respond to global conflicts.

Google opened preorders Monday for its first Googlebook laptops, marking the company's biggest attempt yet to build Gemini AI directly into personal computing rather than offer it primarily through apps and websites.
Googlebooks run Android instead of ChromeOS and integrate Gemini into basic laptop functions. Users can ask AI to analyze content using the cursor, clean up rambling dictation, and create simple custom tools. The laptops start at $899 and begin shipping in the U.S. on Oct. 4.
The launch could reshape Google's Chromebook business, particularly in schools, where students and educators use roughly 50 million of the computers. Google says existing Chromebooks will continue receiving support, though many could eventually transition to the new Googlebook platform.

Paramount Skydance cleared a major hurdle in its $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery on Monday after settling with 12 states that had sued to block the deal on antitrust grounds.
Paramount agreed to release at least 30 films annually for the first two years and 32 annually for the following three or pay $30 million for each missed film. It will also establish independent editorial boards for CNN and CBS News, invest more than $1 billion in U.S. production, and create a $47.5 million fund for workers displaced by the merger.
The merger would bring Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, Paramount+ and HBO Max, and the CBS News and CNN newsrooms under one company. The Justice Department and several foreign regulators have already approved the deal.
