Special counsel requests "narrow" gag order for Trump in election interference case
Special Counsel Jack Smith asked for a “narrowly tailored” gag order on Donald Trump that restricts him from making public statements about the 2020 election interference case. Smith’s filing said that Trump’s recent statements are intended to undermine confidence in the judicial system and intimidate individuals involved in the case. Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, who is overseeing the case, already warned Trump in August about making “inflammatory statements” about the case. (More)
Hurricane Lee’s high winds, rains and waves are approaching New England and eastern Canada
Hurricane Lee is on track to pass close to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine while making a direct hit on Eastern Canada through the weekend. Coastal Maine and parts of Canada will be hit with hurricane-force winds of 74 mph or greater. The center of Hurricane Lee is not expected to make landfall in the US, but the wind will create life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Officials are also warning of the threat of flooding from the storm surge. (More)
Workers strike at all 3 Detroit automakers
Unionized auto workers at General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis are striking simultaneously for the first time in history after negotiations failed to reach a last-minute deal on a new contract. The companies came to the table with an offer for increased wages, but didn’t address the benefit demands of the union. The workers received support from President Biden, who said the Big 3 automakers should share their “record profits.” A 10-day shutdown is estimated to cost the companies a combined $5 billion. TikTok fined over $368 million for children's data privacy violations in Europe
European regulators fined TikTok $368 million for failing to protect children’s personal information. The app has been under scrutiny for its handling of children’s data privacy for years around the world. The Data Protection Commission found that the app pushes users toward privacy-intrusive options during account registration and when posting videos. It also said that profile settings were automatically set to public for child users. TikTok responded that the fine is unreasonable and that most of the issues have already been addressed. (More)
Three men found not guilty over plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Whitmer
A jury acquitted three men charged over the plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) and violently overthrow the state government before the 2020 election. The three were the last of the 14 people who faced charges over the scheme, nine of whom were convicted and five were cleared. The plot was conceived in part due to the strict coronavirus policies instituted by the governor during the pandemic. (More)

The home was built, furnished, and stocked with food with help from two other charitable organizations. Dunn has helped make 218 single parents into new homeowners through his charity since 1997. 12-Year-Old Saves Man Who Passed Out Underwater
A 12-year-old named Austen MacMillan revived his behavioral therapist Jason Piquette after he partially drowned using CPR he learned while watching a TV show. MacMillan was swimming with Piquette when the therapist wanted to see how long he could hold his breath underwater. When he didn’t resurface after 6 minutes, Austen dragged him out of the water and performed CPR until Piquette woke up a few minutes later. (More)
Bank Decides it Should have Prevented Dementia Depositor from Getting Scammed–So Restores Entire Life Savings
An Australian man with dementia was tricked by scammers into revealing his banking information, which ANZ bank found was something they should have been able to detect and stop before the scammers stole all of the depositor’s life savings. The bank decided to return nearly AUD$500,000 out of its own pockets to make the victim whole. (More)
Inspired Youth Pulls 2.6 Million Pounds of Trash from Indonesian Rivers
An Indonesian teenager named Sam Benchagjib started an environmental organization called Sungai Watch to help clean up his country’s waterways. His team worked for three years learning to build and scale the operation that utilizes river barriers to prevent plastic from reaching the ocean. Sungai Watch has successfully cleaned several of Indonesia’s most polluted rivers and revived ecosystems that have been damaged because of plastic pollution. So far, over 2.6 million pounds of plastic waste have been collected from Indonesia’s waterways. (More)
