Shootings continue to claim victims across the US
Four people were shot and killed at a sweet sixteen birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama on Saturday. Another twenty were injured, most of which were teenagers. One of the victims, Philstavious Dowdell, signed with Jacksonville State to play quarterback next year.
In 2022, Alabama stopped requiring residents to obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun. The state has the third highest rate of gun deaths in the US, according to a 2020 report by Everytown, a non-profit that advocates for gun control and against gun violence.
Meanwhile, another shooting occurred in Louisville at roughly the same time Saturday night. An unknown shooter fired a gun into a gathering of hundreds of people in a park, killing two and injuring four others. This latest incident occurred less than a week after the city suffered a deadly bank shooting that took the lives of five people.
