Police Raid Andrew Tate’s Home
Masked police in Romania raided Andrew Tate's home as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple serious charges.
The raids are part of a larger investigation by Romania’s anti-organized crime agency, DIICOT, into crimes of trafficking minors, rape, and money laundering. Tate, an ex-kickboxer and controversial internet influencer, is awaiting trial with his brother and two others.
Andrew Tate and his brother were arrested in 2022. They have denied all allegations with Andrew claiming there is a political conspiracy against him. The case has been moving through Romanian courts slowly, with a trial approved but not yet started. Tate and his brother were initially held in police detention and later placed under house arrest with restrictions on their movements.
Recently, a Romanian court blocked an earlier decision that would have allowed the Tate brothers to leave the country while awaiting trial. Additionally, the Tates are involved in a separate case in the U.K., where they face allegations of sexual aggression. The Romanian court has agreed to extradite them to the U.K. after their legal issues in Romania are resolved.
U.S. Economy Added 818,000 Less Jobs Than Estimated
New data shows that the labor market added 818,000 fewer jobs from last year through early 2024 than initially reported.
This is the largest revision since 2009 and suggests that the job market has cooled more than previously thought. The government updates job data annually based on more accurate unemployment insurance tax records. There is usually a difference between between the two datasets.
The revised data indicates that, on average, 174,000 jobs were added each month over the past year, not the 242,000 originally reported. This isn’t ideal but it doesn’t mean the job market is collapsing. The Fed said they are more focused on labor market weakness now that inflation has noticeably cooled.
The biggest downward revisions were in professional and business sectors, which added 358,000 fewer jobs than initially reported. Manufacturing, trade, and hospitality also saw job gains revised lower. However, sectors like transportation, warehousing, private education, and health added more jobs than previously thought.
Ukraine Attacks Moscow With Drones
Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Moscow, with at least 11 drones targeting the capital.
All the drones were shot down by Russian air defenses, preventing any damage or injuries. The attack is part of Ukraine's ongoing efforts to strike Russian territory, including Moscow and other regions like Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod.
The war between Ukraine and Russia, which has mainly involved artillery and drone battles in eastern Ukraine, intensified on August 6 when Ukraine sent soldiers into Russia's Kursk region. Ukraine has also been using drones to target Russian refineries and airfields, though large-scale attacks on Moscow have been less common.
Meanwhile, Russia is advancing in eastern Ukraine, controlling about 18% of the territory, and fighting to stop Ukraine's advances into the Kursk region.
