Televangelist Swaggart Dies

Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart passed away at 90.

  • The Louisiana preacher who became a household name through his Pentecostal sermons and built one of America's largest television ministries died Tuesday after suffering cardiac arrest last month. Swaggart commanded audiences of millions in the 1980s and helped define the era of mass-market televangelism before personal scandals drastically reduced his following.

  • Born into poverty alongside music legend cousins Jerry Lee Lewis and Mickey Gilley, Swaggart built a $142 million ministry by 1986 with his fiery preaching style. His career collapsed in 1988 when he was photographed with a prostitute, leading to his tearful 'I have sinned against you' confession and departure from the Assemblies of God denomination.

  • The scandal made him a frequent target on 'Saturday Night Live,' but he continued preaching at his Baton Rouge ministry for three more decades. He maintained radio and internet broadcasts until his death, with his son Donnie promising to 'continue the work' of the ministry.

Lululemon Gets Duped

Lululemon sued Costco over $8 dupes of $118 athletic wear.

  • The athleisure brand filed a lawsuit Friday claiming Costco copied specific patented designs and sold them under different brand names for a fraction of the price. Lululemon says Costco's $8 pullover replicates its $118 SCUBA design, while other items like $10 Kirkland pants copy features from its $128 ABC Pant line.

  • Lululemon sent Costco a cease-and-desist letter in November, but Costco only removed some items and later introduced new products that Lululemon says still violate its designs. The company claims Costco creates confusion by using similar manufacturers for its private label products, leading customers to believe they're getting authentic quality.

  • The case is the latest example of "dupe culture" driven by social media, where TikTok influencers promote cheaper alternatives under hashtags like "#LululemonDupes." Lululemon wants the court to force Costco to stop selling the products, pay damages for lost profits, and remove any advertising featuring the disputed items.

Al Phishing Threat

Hackers are using AI to create convincing phishing sites in just 30 seconds.

  • Cybercriminals are exploiting an AI website builder called Vercel to generate fake login pages by simply typing commands like "build a copy of Google's login page." Identity management company Okta says this is the first time researchers have seen criminals use AI to build entire phishing sites rather than just write deceptive emails, making sophisticated attacks accessible to anyone with basic computer skills.

  • Okta discovered the technique while investigating threats to its own corporate login portal, finding that criminals created multiple fake sites targeting banking, email, and social media logins within the same week. While Okta found no evidence that hackers successfully stole passwords through these sites, the copycat hack could help attackers launch more campaigns than traditional manual methods.

  • Vercel removed the sites Okta identified and is developing new safeguards to protect against fraud site creation, but security researchers warn that copies of the tool are circulating on other platforms. Okta recommends that companies and individuals use app-based security codes rather than relying solely on passwords to protect accounts.
