Today’s Big Story

Iran Hits Back

Iran retaliated with missile strikes after Israel's nuclear facility attacks.

  • Iranian missiles struck Tel Aviv in three waves, setting at least one building ablaze and injuring 44 people as sirens alerted residents to take shelter. Israel’s Channel 12 reported two critical injuries, eight moderate injuries, and 34 slight shrapnel wounds, while officials said fewer than 100 rockets were fired. Iranian state TV claimed it shot down an Israeli warplane and captured the pilot, which Israel denied.

  • Despite expectations of massive retaliation, Iran's limited response resulted from Israeli intelligence operations that decapitated the country's command structure in the initial strikes. IDF forces destroyed a Revolutionary Guard bunker, killing the air force commander and heads of drone and air defense forces. "The fact that there was nobody to give the order neutralized an immediate Iranian response," an Israeli official said. Mossad agents also conducted covert sabotage operations inside Iran, destroying missile launchers and air defenses.

  • Iran told an emergency UN Security Council session that the US shares 'full responsibility' for the strikes, which killed 78 people and wounded more than 320. Trump confirmed the US had advance knowledge, saying 'we knew everything' about Israel's plans, contradicting earlier State Department statements that Israel acted 'unilaterally.' US forces are now actively helping defend Israel with air defenses and fighter jets.
