Eagles Dominate Chiefs

(Charlie Riedel)
The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
The win served as redemption for the Eagles, who lost to the Chiefs two years ago in Super Bowl LVII. Simultaneously, the Chiefs' dream of winning three straight Super Bowls - something never done before - fell flat.
The Eagles' defense played an outstanding game, allowing only 225 total yards and forcing three turnovers. A key highlight was Cooper DeJean's interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter. On offense, Jalen Hurts had an excellent game, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also set a new Super Bowl record for quarterbacks by rushing for 72 yards.
Despite throwing for 257 yards and three touchdowns, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a tough night. Most of his successful plays came late in the game when the Eagles were already far ahead. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, bringing his career Super Bowl record to 3 wins and 3 losses.

Shutdown Standoff

A federal judge temporarily stopped President Trump’s plans to shut down the US Agency for International Development.
The judge blocked two main things: the sudden removal of thousands of USAID workers from their jobs and a rule that would have forced overseas workers to return to America within 30 days.
The Trump administration had already started dismantling USAID. They removed the agency's name from its headquarters, cut off workers' access to email and emergency systems, and stopped funding for programs worldwide.
Meanwhile, the new acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Russell Vought, ordered all staff to stop work immediately. All activities are on pause unless specifically approved or legally required. He also announced cutting the agency's funding.
On the other side of the aisle, Democratic Senator Andy Kim says Democrats would consider a government shutdown to protest Trump administration actions, which include the USAID shutdown and giving Elon Musk's DOGE access to federal payment systems.

Israel Pulls Out of Gaza

Israel has pulled its troops out of the Netzarim Corridor, which was a military zone that split Gaza into north and south.
Now, hundreds of Palestinians are returning to northern Gaza, though many are finding their homes destroyed. The withdrawal is part of a ceasefire agreement from January 19th. Under the agreement, 16 Israeli hostages and 566 Palestinian prisoners have been freed so far, with more releases expected in the coming weeks.
The UN reports that about two-thirds of Gaza's buildings have been damaged or destroyed. Around 700,000 people from northern Gaza had to flee south when the war started, and many had to move multiple times as the fighting spread.
Last Week, President Trump suggested moving Gaza's entire civilian population out and redeveloping the area into “the Riveriea of the Middle East” for “the world’s people.” The idea has been strongly rejected by Arab countries, with Saudi Arabia calling it "ethnic cleansing" and Egypt planning an emergency Arab League meeting to discuss the situation.
