Megalodon Was Bigger but Less Chunky Than Previously Thought

Scientists just dropped a bombshell about megalodons - the ancient sea monsters might have been even bigger than we thought.
New research published March 9 in Palaeontologia Electronica suggests these prehistoric sharks could have reached up to 80 feet long, a full 15 feet longer than previous estimates. Megalodons likely also had streamlined bodies similar to modern lemon sharks, rather than the bulky frame of great whites. (Read all about megalodons here)
Scientists have struggled to determine megalodon's true size since no complete fossils exist. Earlier studies relied on comparisons with great whites due to their similar teeth, but the new research expanded the comparison to over 150 shark species, both living and extinct. They also discovered these giants likely gave birth to pups measuring 12-13 feet - already larger than most adult sharks today.
Not everyone's convinced, though. Jack Cooper, a megalodon expert not involved in the study, cautions that without more complete fossils (almost all are just teeth), we can't definitively determine the shark's true appearance.

Canada Taxes Power Exports

(Nathan Denette | The Canadian Press)
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is fighting fire with fire in the escalating trade war with the U.S.
Yesterday, the Canadian province began charging 25% more for electricity to 1.5 million Americans in Minnesota, New York, and Michigan—a direct response to President Trump's recent tariffs.
"I will not hesitate to increase this charge. If the United States escalates, I will not hesitate to shut the electricity off completely," Ford warned during a Toronto news conference. The surcharge is expected to generate about $277,000 daily and add roughly $69 monthly to affected American households.
The move comes alongside Canada's $21 billion in retaliatory tariffs on American products ranging from orange juice to motorcycles. Ford even suggested Alberta should consider taxing its 4.3 million barrels of daily oil exports to the U.S.
Canada supplies 52% of U.S. oil imports and 85% of electricity imports, with $2.7 billion in cross-border trade daily.

Tanker Collision

US-flagged fuel tanker MV Stena Immaculate and the Portuguese container ship Solong collided Monday off Britain's North Sea coast.
Multiple explosions occurred after the tanker's cargo tank ruptured, releasing Jet-A1 fuel and causing fires that spread across the water. Black smoke billowed into the air as emergency services rushed to the scene. (Watch video)
All 37 crew members across both vessels were safely accounted for, with only one person hospitalized. The Stena Immaculate crew abandoned ship after the explosions.
Environmental watchdogs are monitoring the situation closely. The Solong was reportedly carrying toxic sodium cyanide, though it's unclear if any entered the water. The chemical is used for fumigation, gold and silver extraction, and chemical manufacturing.
Officials haven’t released the cause of the crash. However, maritime safety expert David McFarlane noted that despite onboard warning systems like radar and AIS, human error is often behind the 200-300 ship collisions that happen annually worldwide.
