Donald Trump Wins

(AP)
Donald Trump has won the 2024 US presidential election.
Trump declared victory around 3 am ET after Fox News projected he had won swing states Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
As of 5:55 am ET, Trump has tallied 277 of the 270 votes necessary to win, according to AP, including key battleground states Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia. Votes are still being counted in Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada, but he has a two-point, four-point, and 5-point lead, respectively.
The win comes after two years of campaigning in which he survived two assassination attempts. Trump gave a victory speech in Palm Beach, FL, before the race was called, saying he would “fix everything about our country” and praised Tesla CEO Elon Musk for his support.
Republicans also secured a majority (51 of 100) in the Senate by flipping two West Virginia and Ohio seats. Seven races are still being tallied. The party is also on track to retain control of the House. The current count is 197-179 with 59 seats outstanding.

DHL Package Bombs

(Financial Times)
Poland has detained four suspects involved in an alleged Russian plot to test parcel bomb attacks on US-bound flights.
The arrests came after a package ignited before being loaded on a cargo plane at a DHL center in Leipzig, Germany. A similar incident happened in Birmingham, UK. Authorities suspect the packages were test runs to see if Russia could use the method to sabotage transatlantic flights to the US and Canada.
While Russia denies the accusations, European intelligence officials believe that Russian military intelligence, the GRU, was behind the incidents.
UK intelligence leader Ken McCallum warned that Russian agents have been increasing reckless acts like sabotage and arson, mainly in response to Western support for Ukraine.
European leaders have increased security in response to the suspected Russian sabotage. Poland has closed a Russian consulate and may expel the Russian ambassador if the suspected attacks continue.

Boeing Strike Ends

Boeing factory workers have accepted a new contract and ended their strike.
Boeing’s 33,000 striking workers are returning to work with a 38% wage increase over four years. The average machinist’s pay is currently $75,608, but will eventually reach $119,309 under the new contract.
The strike hit Boeing’s finances hard and restarting production might take a few weeks as some workers may need retraining. Research groups said the strike cost Boeing about $6.5B and, its stock price is down around 40%.
This walkout is only one in a series of setbacks for Boeing. Multiple federal investigations are looking into Boeing’s manufacturing safety after a door blew off a 737 Max plane mid-flight in January — the same model that crashed in 2018 and 2019, killing 346 people.
