Today’s Big Story
Diddy Sentenced to Four Years
Sean "Diddy" Combs was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. He was acquitted of more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Combs has already served 12 months and is expected to appeal immediately.
In a tearful courtroom speech, Combs apologized for his "disgusting, despicable" 2016 assault on Cassie Ventura captured on hotel surveillance video. He blamed drug addiction and said, "I got lost in excess, I got lost in my ego." His six adult children testified in his defense, and his daughters broke down while describing what it was like to grow up without their mother, Kim Porter.
Judge Arun Subramanian cited Combs' violent conduct despite acknowledging his career achievements and philanthropy. The judge told victims "we heard you" and praised their courage, while telling Combs he could use "the same power you used to hurt women" to help them. Prosecutors had sought 11 years, while the defense requested 14 months given time served.

The FDA said it has limited power to reject generics that match brand-name drugs. (More)

Scientists converted a blood-type-A kidney to type O using enzymes and transplanted it into a brain-dead person, where it worked well for two days before showing rejection. The process could shorten waiting lists for type-O patients, who make up over half the list and wait two to four years longer than others. (More)
