Cancer Vaccine Advances
An experimental personalized cancer vaccine from Moderna and Merck helped prevent high-risk melanoma from returning or spreading in a late-stage clinical trial. The treatment was given to patients who had already undergone surgery to remove their cancer.
The vaccine, called Intismeran, uses mRNA technology to train each patient's immune system to recognize proteins unique to their cancer cells and attack them. It is administered alongside Merck's immunotherapy drug Keytruda, effectively giving the immune system a personalized target and then helping it mount a stronger response.
The companies have not yet released the new Phase 3 data or published it in a peer-reviewed journal, including how much longer patients remained cancer-free. Earlier research on the treatment found it cut the risk of melanoma returning by roughly half after five years. Moderna’s stock rocketed 180% on the news.
Primary Results
Florida: Democratic socialist state Rep. Angie Nixon pulled off a major upset in the U.S. Senate primary, defeating former national security official Alex Vindman by roughly 56% to 44%. Nixon raised less than $1 million compared with more than $16 million for Vindman, overcoming his huge financial advantage to advance against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in November.
Alaska: Former Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola finished ahead of Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan in the state's nonpartisan Senate primary. Both advanced under Alaska's top-four system, setting up a competitive November race for the Republican-held seat.
Wyoming: Republicans selected nominees for governor and two open congressional seats, including the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Cynthia Lummis. The GOP winners will be heavily favored in November in one of the country's most Republican states.
Drone Delivery Takes Off
Amazon plans to expand drone delivery more than sixfold by the end of the year, reaching suburban areas across nearly 500 U.S. cities and potentially 30 million customers. The drones can carry packages weighing up to five pounds and are designed to deliver orders within 30 minutes.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy says the company aims to deliver 500 million packages by drone annually by 2030. However, obstacles such as trees, limited drop zones, airports, noise concerns, and local regulations still restrict where the service can operate.
Amazon is also racing Walmart, which plans to expand drone delivery to 270 locations by 2027 through a partnership with Alphabet's Wing. Prime members will get free Amazon drone delivery on orders over $50 and pay $2.99 on smaller orders, while nonmembers will pay $4.99.
Quality, Tested CBD – and Why It Matters
CBD is increasingly popular, with hundreds of products designed to provide everything from better sleep to relief and recovery to increased focus. Once you’ve figured out which CBD formula is right for you, it’s important to be able to trust that what’s in the bottle or jar matches what’s on the label.
This is where third-party testing comes in. Independent labs test CBD products, verifying the cannabinoid content matches what’s on the label and screening for the presence of heavy metals, pesticides, and other contaminants.
Unlike some companies that cut corners, CBDistillery ensures that every single batch of their CBD products are tested by an accredited lab. And these test results are posted on their website, so you can see them before you place your order.
CBDistillery is so sure you’ll like their products, they’re offering a special deal: save 50% on orders of $75 or more with code AUGUST50!
