Biden announces reelection bid
On Tuesday, President Joe Biden announced that he’s running for reelection in 2024 by releasing a video that opens with scenes from the January 6, 2021 Capitol attacks.
Biden faces an opponent that eventually gets the best of everyone, age. He is currently 80 years old, making him the oldest sitting President by a 6-year margin. 44% of Democrats think he is too old to run, according to a Reuters poll completed on Monday. Republicans targeted his age often during his 1st term and will continue to use it as ammo during this election cycle. However, Donald Trump, Biden’s most likely rival in the 2024 election, isn’t much younger at 76. A separate poll says 35% of Republicans think Trump is too old.
Senator Bernie Sanders said he would forgo another Presidential run and endorsed Biden for reelection on Tuesday. Biden is unlikely to face any real opposition for the Democratic bid. Many believe he is a lock to be reelected as Donald Trump swims in ongoing legal issues.
